Browsing Craigslist, as I usually do on a nightly basis, I come across this gem of an ad for a Volvo S80.
"Only 68k miles and I'm just the second owner. It does need a little bit of tlc. Drivers window needs replaced (comes with new window) it does not start at the moment. It needs the alarm and/or electrical system looked at, ran good before. I don't have money to put into to it right now."
Let's break this down here sentence by sentence:
Only 68k miles and I'm just the second owner.
Ok. I can believe that.
It does need a little bit of tlc.
Yikes. A Craigslist ad saying it needs a bit of work really means it needs a lot of work. But, lets see what is wrong.
Drivers window needs replaced (comes with new window)[.]
Hmm... a '99 with low mileage, that is strange. What happened?
It does not start at the moment.
Well that escalated quickly. That may be a serious issue. Dead battery? Bad starter?
It needs the alarm and/or electrical system looked at, ran good before.
Ok. That is strange. Why is the alarm bad? Wait, the window is busted. Now it doesn't start. And the alarm and electrical system isn't good? This sounds like it may be stolen. But it ran before. Well of course, any car ran before some point. A rusted out 1965 Chevy did run at one point.
I don't have money to put into to it right now.
That still doesn't sound right to me.

Two really bad pics
And no interior pics also. Not to mention how filthy it is. You couldn't at least hose it down? Or show me the inside at all? Or turn your phone horizontally? Really?
Price
$2750 seems quite low for a low mileage Volvo. I'm doubting this ad a lot.

Reminds me of a New Jersey Craigslist add I saw for an S-class:
"Don't ask for the stupid title."

Am I seeing things or from the picture does the passenger side of the hood look burnt?

What? That dump piece of paper proving ownership? Who needs that?
I saw another ad for a Chevy Malibu saying that he lost the keys and doesn't want to keep looking. Becuase of that, the car is locked and you can't get in. The phone number search revealed he owned a towing company. The car was towed and the owner didn't claim it. Who doesn't look for the keys for their car?

Honestly, I cannot tell... in that first pic it does look really off. Didn't notice that before.

How do I reach this man other than E-mail?
Last time I tried selling my car on craigslist, i had someone email me and ask for my phone umber. Because, you know, texting vast quantities of info about a car is so much easier on a phone. I obliged, and within a few hours, started getting all kinds of dick pics.
So, yeah, that's one reason not to put down a phone number.
And as terrible as this ad is, even the most well written, thorough ad gets inundated with dozens of "Duz it ran? Wen u last drive it?", "Send moar pix 2 555-1234" and "Still for sale? will you take (price/2) for it?", so there's not much incentive to put anything other than the basic info and whatever pics you have on hand.

As it's from Florida I'd assume that's just your typical southern car sunburn from being parked outside in the sun for years

I see S80's at the towing auction regularly. Electrical gremlins, and bad transmissions mostly. Probably 168k. Run.

I love Volvos.. but I know the majority of them from the late 90s to early 00s were really not great (Thanks Ford!). We have a '12 S60 and it is great.
